About The Project
The Serengeti Ecosystem Conservation Programme (SECP) is committed to working with partners to protect one of the world's most iconic ecosystems, safeguarding biodiversity, engaging local communities in conservation, and ensuring sustainable tourism practices. As part of our ongoing efforts to secure funding and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, we are seeking a Fundraising and Communications Liaison Officer who will engage with nature based tourism related businesses operating in the Serengeti to fundraise for SECP and assist in promoting the work of FZS in support of conservation and the communities adjacent to the protected areas of the Serengeti Ecosystem.
Your Tasks
Communication Support for Conservation Efforts:
  • Collaborate with the communications team to develop engaging materials (e.g., newsletters, social media content, website updates) that highlight the conservation work and positive impacts of our operations in the Serengeti Ecosystem.
  • Develop content to amplify stories around community engagement in conservation
  • Support the Serengeti programme by creating tailored communication that spotlight community-focused work and its positive outcomes for both conservation and local populations.
  • Act as a liaison between the Serengeti Ecosystem Conservation Programme and tourism businesses to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with the overall communication strategy.
  • Support to other FZS programmes in Tanzania, where needed.
 
Fundraising and Engagement with Nature-based Tourism Operators and their Clients:
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage tourism operators (local and international) in fundraising activities that support the Serengeti Ecosystem Conservation Programme.
  • Establish partnerships with tourist operators to secure direct and in-kind donations, including sponsorships, event support, and promotional activities.
  • Represent the programme when invited by nature-based business to present on conservation activities, opportunities and challenges
  • Identify new potential partners and cultivate relationships to increase donations and support for the programme.
  • Organize fundraising events and campaigns in collaboration with tourist operators to raise awareness and generate financial support.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of fundraising activities, providing regular updates to the Programme Manager.
 Reporting and Monitoring:
  • Track fundraising progress and compile regular reports for both internal stakeholders and partners.
  • Evaluate the impact of fundraising activities and suggest adjustments to improve outcomes.
  • Gather feedback from tourist operators on the effectiveness of communication materials and adjust as needed to improve engagement.
Relationship Management:
  • Serve as the key point of contact for tourist operators interested in supporting the Serengeti Ecosystem Conservation Programme.
  • Build long-term, meaningful relationships with operators by ensuring they feel valued and engaged with, to encourage their support for the programme’s activities.
  • Serve as point of contact on media requests related to FZS’s work in the Serengeti, and coordinate responses with appropriate staff accordingly.
Your Profile
Essential
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, fundraising, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Communication and fundraising.
  • Strong knowledge in conservation issues.
  • Proven ability to engage stakeholders and build successful partnerships.
  • Experience in writing and producing communication materials (e.g., newsletters, social media content, reports).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with CRM systems.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Kiswahili is an advantage
  • Basic photography and editing skills (more experience desirable)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and other design programs.
Desirable
  • A master’s degree in communication, Fundraising, or marketing will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of the Serengeti Ecosystem and the opportunities and challenges for conservation and community development
  • Demonstrable experience of fundraising in the nature-based tourism and conservation sectors.
  • Knowledge in Tourism sector and its stakeholders in Tanzania and East Africa.

  • An initial contract of one years will be offered, subject to a completion of a successful probation period.
