About the Project
Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is an internationally operating nature conservation organisation based in Germany that has been supporting conservation projects in Africa, South America, Southeast Asia and Europe for many decades. Following our mission to conserve wildlife and ecosystems, we are focusing our work on protected areas and outstanding wilderness places. In South America, FZS concentrates its effort on the Amazon rainforest and has expanded its engagement in the region in recent years.
For over 10 years, FZS has been supporting the Protected Areas Commission in Guyana in strengthening management of the national protected areas system with a particular focus on the Kanuku Mountains Protected Area (KMPA). In December 2022, a new cooperation agreement was signed with the Government of Guyana to extend this support and to help the country in its commitment to expanding the protected areas system, initially to 17% and progressively to 30% by 2030.
